Red Umbrella

A red umbrella fills the frame, its canopy tilted against a pale summer sky. Józef Mehoffer paints it as a single bold shape, no figure beneath, no story attached. The pigment reads in layered reds, vermilion over darker madder where the folds turn. Light presses through the silk from behind, so the underside glows a hotter, rosier crimson while the ribs cast thin shadow lines across it. Around the canopy the sky stays milky blue and almost empty, which pushes the dome of red forward until it seems to hover. It suits a sunlit hallway or a bright reading corner, somewhere the color can carry the whole wall on its own.
