Rattling River

Water crashes over a boulder-strewn channel in Rattling River by Arkady Rylov. Spray catches light. The current splits and re-forms with real force. Rylov paints in quick, loaded strokes, the water built from slate grey, cream and cold green, the stones pushed forward with thick impasto. Banks of dark spruce crowd the edges, their reflections shivering where the current races fastest. Every brushmark follows the motion of the water itself. A natural fit for a hallway or stair landing, where the rush of moving water draws the eye upward and carries sound into the room.
