Ramayana

Rama, Sita, and Lakshmana thread a narrow forest path, the Ramayana rendered in Nicholas Roerich tempera where the Hindu epic meets the Himalayas. Color goes down in thin, matte veils: emerald foliage, an ochre clearing, violet foothills stacked against cobalt snow. Hatched brushwork gives every rock and pine a carved edge, and the distant peak burns pale gold above the treeline.
