Pskov. Fish Market at the Foot of the Cathedral

Fish sellers and market stalls crowd the base of a great Russian cathedral in Pskov, drawn by Mstislav Dobuzhinsky with his unmistakable feel for old provincial towns. Toned ink and wash carry the scene: tilted church domes rise above tin roofs and crooked stall canopies, while small figures trade among baskets and barrels.
