Port of Dieppe

Fishing boats crowd the harbor at Dieppe, their masts a thicket of dark verticals against pale Normandy sky. Gustave Loiseau painted this port with quick, divided strokes of grey, oxblood and slate blue. Watch how the water breaks into short flickering dabs, catching reflections of hulls and rigging, while quays and gabled houses hold the far shore in firmer blocks. Cool harbor light dominates, warmed by small notes of brick red along the docks. Suited to a study, hallway or coastal reading room.
