Poppy in Blue Vase

One poppy holds the whole composition, its red petals loose at the edges while the stem bends under the weight of the bloom. Cuno Amiet painted it against a blue vase that reads almost ceramic, its glaze catching cool light along one shoulder. The background stays loose and pale, letting the flower carry every note of color. Greens flicker through the foliage in short, loaded strokes, and the blue deepens toward the base where shadow pools. Small dabs of crimson and vermilion sit side by side without blending, a technique Amiet absorbed from French colorism. It suits a sunlit breakfast nook, a hallway table, or a quiet corner of a living room.
