Pond

Still water holds the midday sky flat and bright in Pond, a quiet Russian backwater by Pyotr Konchalovsky where reeds, willow shadow and duckweed close over the near bank. Thick oil strokes build the surface: viridian laid wet against sap green, a grey trunk leaning over mirrored trees, ochre mud at the edge, small dabs of yellow where sun breaks through leaves.
