Pir Panjal

The Pir Panjal range spans the horizon in one unbroken band of snow. Nicholas Roerich gives the mountains their full breadth, peak after peak held beneath a cold Himalayan sky. Bands of glacier white run across the midground, cut by deep ridgelines of cobalt and slate. The foreground falls away in dark slopes, tempered earth tones against the brightened summits, and thin washes of blue shadow settle into every crevice. His tempera surfaces read flat and luminous, each plane a single deliberate tone. Suited to a study or reading room where a wide mountain vista earns its place above a desk.
