Pinks

Two pinks on tall stems, held upright by a thin bamboo cane tied with twine. Mackintosh paints them against a pale ground, every petal and leaf placed with deliberate care. The flowers carry a soft rose pink, each ruffled bloom edged toward white at the tips. Grey green leaves fan from the stalks in flattened blades, drawn with the same disciplined line he brought to Glasgow Style design. Watercolor washes pool lightly in the petals, leaving the paper to glow through as light itself.
