Pines by the Sea

Dark pine boughs lean inland over a bright strip of coast. Pines by the Sea brings the Tuscan shoreline of Raffaello Gambogi close, where resin-dark foliage meets salt wind and open water. Look at the weight of those needles, painted in deep viridian and near-black green, crowding the top of the view. Beneath them the sea opens in bands of cobalt and pale turquoise, broken by a shoreline of warm sand tones and low scrub. Gambogi, working in the Tuscan landscape tradition, lets light do the work: sun catches the water while the trees hold their shadow. A study, a hallway, or a reading nook with a view to the coast suits this seascape well.
