Picherit Farm

A farmstead spreads across the canvas of Picherit Farm, Max Meldrum, low buildings and bare paddocks arranged with the measured calm of an Australian tonalist landscape. Nothing shouts. The whole scene holds its breath. Meldrum builds the image in narrow tonal steps: dusty ochre for the stubble fields, greyed greens along the fence lines, a pale wash of sky pressing down on roof and shed. A dirt track curls toward the homestead, its edges softened until ground and distance merge into one atmospheric plane.
