Petersburg. New Holland.

Water towers and a ring of canal rise through the frame of Petersburg. New Holland., an Anna Ostroumova-Lebedeva view of the old timber island in the Neva delta. Red brick arches curve over dark water while a wood-and-stone slipway cuts a pale diagonal across the middle distance. Fine linework carries every mast, railing and rooftop chimney, and the grey-washed sky sits close on the red facades. Ostroumova-Lebedeva builds the scene from layered washes over crisp drawn edges, her woodcut-trained hand visible in the geometry of the arches and the flat gleam on the canal. A study wall, hallway or desk corner gives this northern cityscape the quiet it asks for.
