A garden facade recedes behind clipped parterres in Peterhof Palace. Mon Plaisir. Medium room, Alexandre Benois rendering the modest Dutch styled pavilion with affectionate precision. Benois, historian of the World of Art circle, returned often to Peterhof, and his devotion shows in every measured roofline and pane. Ochre and faded rose wash the masonry, while graphite lines trace chimneys, dormer windows, and the bare crossing branches of trees at the edge of the grounds. Watercolor pools softly in sky and lawn, then thins to dry brush along cornices. The palette stays hushed, silvery, unmistakably northern. A drawing room or hallway with panelled walls suits its quiet architecture well, especially beside aged gilt or dark painted frames.
