Pejzaz z cyprysami

Dark cypresses rise through a Polish landscape, and Ferdynand Ruszczyc paints them as if they were cathedral spires. The title says it plainly: pejzaz z cyprysami, a landscape with cypresses. Oil paint laid on in thick, deliberate strokes gives the trees their near-black mass, their columns of deep green pressing against a sky that stays pale and open. Below, sunlit ground washes in ochre and warm umber, the light falling sideways so shadows stretch long between trunks. Every brushmark holds its own direction, following the growth of branch and blade. A study or library wall suits its quiet gravity, beside dark wood furniture and low lamplight.
