Pears in a Basket with Apples and a Copper Kettle

Pears crowd a woven basket, skins flushed yellow green, while russet apples spill onto the table beside them. Maurice Louis Monnot arranges the fruit at eye level, close enough to catch the nap of the wicker and the bruised blush on each shoulder. A copper kettle holds the right edge of the composition, its hammered body throwing a soft rose gleam across the cloth. Brushwork stays tight in the fruit and loosens toward the dark kitchen wall behind, where the metal catches one narrow highlight along the rim.
