Pastoral Scene at Sunset

Long amber light lies flat across a meadow, and a handful of cattle graze at the edge of the glow. Pastoral Scene at Sunset is Granville Redmond at his quietest. The grass runs from warm ochre into violet shadow, brushed in short, loaded strokes that catch the last of the day. A few dark trees anchor the middle distance while the sky behind them dissolves into rose and pale apricot, the sun already gone below the horizon line. Redmond paints the hush of evening rather than its drama, letting the herd stand nearly still against the fading color. Made for a study, a hallway, or a bedroom reading nook where evening light belongs.
