A mountain pass bends out of sight, its narrow trail swallowed by storm. Nicholas Roerich titled it Pass. Tempest. Secret path., and everything in the scene answers that triple naming. Cloud banks churn above in bruised violet and slate, while the ridge itself holds a cold, pale light, snowfields brushed thin and dry against darker rock. The path threads upward through the gloom, small and stubborn, the only warm gesture in a composition otherwise given over to wind and weight. His tempera surfaces read flat and luminous, pigment laid in broad, unbroken fields. A study or stairway wall, where weather and mystery belong.
