Fresh snow lies along the riverbanks in Paris, Quais de la Seine sous la Neige, Pierre-Jacques Pelletier catching the city in a grey morning stillness where footprints fade as they appear. The river keeps its colour, a deep band of slate and raw umber running between whitened stone parapets. Bare trees, moored barges and iron lampposts line the quay, rooftops dissolving upstream, each form built from short loaded strokes that leave the drifts thick and the current glassy.
