Panorama of Cassis

Cassis spreads below in a broad sweep of harbor water, rooftops stepping down toward the quay. Maurice Denis renders the town as a sequence of overlapping planes, each hillside flattened into soft bands of terracotta and pine green. Look closely and the Nabi geometry shows itself everywhere: brushwork laid in flat, deliberate strokes, cypress silhouettes repeated like a decorative rhythm along the slope, small boats reduced to dark crescents on the water.
