Pan

A horned head lifts from the rough block, the goat god Pan caught between beast and man, mouth parted as if the first note of a syrinx still hangs in the air. Dimitrie Paciurea shaped the god with symbolist restraint. Heavy brow, cheekbones catching light like weathered rock, a beard dissolving into animal fur. Chisel marks stay visible across the cheeks while the horns keep a darker, rougher skin, the whole surface alive under the hand that made it. Set in a study lined with books, or a dim entryway, he holds the room with an older, wilder patience than anything else in it.
