Ostatnie śniegi

Thawing snow lies in ragged patches across a dark ploughed field. Ferdynand Ruszczyc builds Ostatnie śniegi from heavy impasto, the white crust dragged over near-black earth in thick, physical strokes. The palette runs cold and low: leaden grey sky, bone-white drifts, soil rendered in umber and violet-brown so deep it reads almost black. Bare trees hold the horizon line. Light is thin, diffuse, the kind that flattens shadow and makes every remaining snowbank glow faintly against the dark ground beneath. A landscape of early spring and hard soil, it belongs in a study or reading nook where its sombre northern mood can hold the wall without shouting.
