Orlinka River Estuary

Estuary water opens toward a hazy horizon, the Orlinka river running silver where it loses itself in the sea. Rylov paints the meeting of currents with the restraint of a Russian northern summer. Broad oil strokes carry the grey-green of shallow channels and the pearl of an overcast sky. Reeds lean along the near bank, their ochre blades reflected in broken ribbons. The brushwork stays wet and loose, pigment dragged so the water seems to move. A reading room or stair landing with cool light suits it; the pale palette keeps company with linen, weathered wood, and uncluttered shelves.
