White blossom panicles lean through a casement thrown wide, morning light spilling across the sill. Open Window. Lilacs by Valentin Serov catches spring at the moment it enters the house. Oil paint goes down in quick loaded strokes, violet clusters broken into dabs of mauve and cobalt shadow, foliage a mash of sap green, the plaster wall inside held in cool grey. Sunlight does the rest, whitening every petal edge it touches.
