On the Lakeshore

Water meets shore in quiet bands of color. On the Lakeshore by Kimon Loghi sets a still Albanian lake against low hills, the surface broken only by soft reflected light. Brushwork stays loose and airy across the middle distance, where pale blue shallows give way to deeper ultramarine near the bank. Reeds and a scattering of trees anchor the foreground in olive and sap green, their shadows stretched long across the mudflat. The sky washes out to a hazy pearl at the horizon, keeping all the weight on that calm waterline. A natural fit above a reading chair or along a hallway wall.
