On Falut

A solitary blue summit rises through cold Himalayan air in On Falut, one of Nicholas Roerich high-mountain visions. Snowfields glow against deep indigo ridgelines while cloud banks drift low across the valleys below. Roerich builds the scene in tempera-like planes of cobalt, ultramarine and bone white, the peaks sharp against a sky washed toward pale gold at the horizon. Rock faces hold long shadows; distant snow slopes read almost luminous. Every edge stays hard, every color unmixed, giving the range that crystalline quality central to Roerich mountain painting. Suited to a study or a quiet reading corner, where a window onto high altitudes is always welcome.
