Obłok

A single cloud swells across the picture plane, its underbelly bruised grey-violet, its crown catching a last smear of pale light. Obłok is Ruszczyc at his most elemental. The cloud dominates everything below it. Ruszczyc loads his paint in broad, directional strokes, so the mass seems to churn as you move past it. Beneath, the land flattens into a dark band of field and treeline, nearly black at the edges, holding all its color in reserve. The sky around the cloud thins to cold whites and leaden blues, brushed thin so the ground of the work breathes through. Hang it where you want weight: above a low sideboard in a dining room, or facing the sofa in a quiet den.
