Oaks in the Park

Massive trunks crowd a shaded lawn, swollen with age, canopies pressed so thick overhead that daylight arrives in patches. Pyotr Konchalovsky named the picture Oaks in the park and built it around that filtered light. Oil lies in loaded, visible strokes, sap green stacked over moss, ochre flickering where sun reaches bark. Grass reads as short clipped dabs. Each bole rises ridged and knotted, while the sky barely breaks through the leaf mass. A study, a reading nook, or a hallway with height gives these old trees room to stand; the cool palette pairs well against walnut, brick, and worn leather.
