Nubra Valley

Nubra Valley opens in tiered ridges of sand and scree, painted by Nicholas Roerich in his deep Himalayan palette. The high desert fills the frame, cold blue shadow pooling between the slopes. Wind-scoured passes climb toward peaks that stay white against a violet sky. Ochre foothills pass through burnt sienna into haze, each band crosshatched with short, patient brushwork that reads like woven wool. A thread of pale water cuts the valley floor where the Shyok gathers glacial melt. This mountain landscape suits a study, a hallway of maps and books, or any room facing north light.
