Green aurora bands sweep across a black arctic sky in Northern Lights. Study from North Norway, Anna Katarina Boberg's record of the polar night she chased in Lofoten. Washes of emerald and pale lime unroll in long horizontal strokes, thinned at the edges where sky meets sea. Below, snow fields and dark headlands sit in cold violet shadow, their forms sketched fast, as if the painter worked between one flare of light and the next. Boberg painted these northern nights over and over, and the urgency shows: pigment still wet-looking, horizon unsteady, everything subordinated to the fire overhead. Hang it in a study or bedroom where low light lets the aurora carry the wall.
