Neva, Light Fog

Low mist lies along the water, thinning the far bank to a pale suggestion. Neva, light fog, by Felix Vallotton, catches the river at its stillest hour, sky and current barely separate. The surface reads as one broad band of grey green, oil laid thin and smooth, the ripples barely stirred. A bridge line crosses the middle distance, its arches half swallowed, while rooftops and masts emerge through the white. One dark hull at the granite quay carries the only deep note. A hallway or bedroom with soft morning sun suits it; those silvery tones keep a room cool and quiet, like a window left open on the water.
