Nemtsovo. Pond

Still water fills the view in Nemtsovo. Pond, a Russian landscape by Pyotr Konchalovsky, where a modest stretch of village water carries the whole weight of the picture. Willows and birches double themselves on the surface, their reflections broken by reed clumps and a band of duckweed along the bank. Thick strokes of sap green, olive and grey blue build the foliage, while the sky sits pale and high above the treeline. It suits a study or reading nook, anywhere daylight can pick out the brush ridges in the reflections and the grain of the grassy bank.
