Neige en Artois

Snow fills the whole canvas here. Marie Duhem paints Neige en Artois as a field of white pushed to the edges, where rooftops and bare trees just manage to hold their own. Look closer and the whiteness is not one color. Grays pool in the hollows of the road, blue lingers in shadowed doorways, and a pale rose glow settles where a chimney catches weak winter light. Small dark strokes of fence and hedgerow give the flat snowfield its depth. A quiet room suits it. Think of a study with a deep armchair, or a reading nook where gray mornings feel welcome.
