Naplemente

The sun drops low over a horizon built from bands of orange, crimson and violet, a sunset reduced to its pure geometry. Naplemente by Scheiber Hugó sets that descending disc against sky pushed to the edge of combustion. The gouache sits thick on the paper surface, pigment dragged in broad strokes so the crimson edges into apricot without ever quite blending. Dark silhouettes anchor the lower register, ground and shadow pressed into near-black masses that make the burning sky burn hotter. At 68x49cm the composition reads at a glance, bold color fields doing all the narrative work. Hung above a desk or in a reading nook, this sunset pulls the evening light out of any room.
