Mountain Landscape

Peaks climb the frame from corner to corner, their ridgelines sharpened into a hazy violet that fades where the air thins. Bogaevsky built his mountains in slow layers of oil, dragging cool grey over warm underpainting until each slope caught its own light. Look closely at the midground: the rock faces carry a stippled, almost granular texture, the paint worked dry so the canvas grain shows through like weathered stone. Below, a valley floor holds its shadows in deep umber, and the sky above burns pale, drained of color at the horizon. The palette runs from slate and lilac down into cold brown, a range that reads as silence as much as scenery. A reading room, a hallway stairwell, any space that wants altitude and quiet.
