Mountain Eagles (Tibetan stupa)

Two dark eagles wheel above a whitewashed Tibetan stupa in Mountain Eagles, Nicholas Roerich reducing the high Himalaya to snow ridges, cold sky, and silence. The chorten rises bone white against ultramarine air, dome and tapering spire carrying the matte chalkiness of tempera. Glaciated slopes cut hard diagonals behind it. Both birds are brief ink strokes, wings locked, riding a wind the brush never needs to draw. A study lined with travel books, a stairway landing, a hallway that catches morning cold: the deep blues keep their authority in low light.
