Mountain Abode

Himalayan snow summits climb into a violet sky, and beneath them a small white dwelling keeps its vigil on the slope. Nicholas Roerich named the scene Mountain Abode. Tempera gives the surface its matte, chalky finish. Cobalt shadow pools in the ravines, the drifts read almost white against ultramarine air, and a thin ochre path stitches the hillside to the sanctuary below. Edges stay hard and clear, the way forms cut at altitude. A study with deep bookshelves, a quiet hallway, or a reading nook facing north light: the cool blues settle a room and reward long, unhurried looking.
