Mount of Five Treasures (Two Worlds)

A snowbound summit fills the upper half of the composition, its five ridges catching pale light against deep cobalt sky. Nicholas Roerich titled this Himalayan vision Mount of Five Treasures (Two Worlds). Below the ice line, blue shadow pools in the ravines while the lower slopes warm into violet and rose, a second world of earth beneath the world of snow. Thin white snowfields read almost like brushloaded tempera, laid in long unhurried strokes down the rock faces. Roerich painted the Himalayas as sacred geography, and the mountains here feel like keepers of hidden treasure. Suits a study or reading room with spare, cool-toned walls.
