Mount M

A lone peak named M rises against a sky of deepened ultramarine, its snowfields rendered in Nicholas Roerich signature tempera whites. The mountain dominates the picture plane almost entirely. Cold light falls from one side, so the craggy flank shifts from pale lilac shadow to sunlit ivory along the ridgeline. Thin glacial streaks run downward like poured milk. Below, only bare rock and silence, painted in the flat, crystalline manner Roerich brought back from his Central Asian expeditions. A fitting presence above a reading desk or in a hallway that needs altitude and stillness.
