Morning Light

Fujishima Takeji painted Morning Light as a study in patience, holding the first minutes of day on canvas with oil paint thinned to the transparency of early haze. A pale sun clears the horizon and the whole surface answers it. Cool violets still cling to the ground plane while a band of peach and cream opens along the skyline, brushed in broad, confident strokes. Thin glazes suggest the sea or plain dissolving into brightness, and the pigment itself seems to warm as the eye moves toward the glow.
