Monhegan (Study)

Rock ledges of Monhegan shoulder into cold Atlantic water, painted by Nicholas Roerich in a swift study of the Maine coast. Granite slabs tilt seaward in slate and violet grey. Surf breaks thin and white against the dark rock, and the sea beyond carries a deep teal that deepens toward the horizon. The brushwork is broad and sure, laid down quickly as if the tide would not wait. Hang it in a reading nook or coastal study where a window faces water.
