Monhegan (study)

Gulls wheel above a fishing village perched on the Maine coast, roofs and docks reduced to quick, loaded strokes. Nicholas Roerich painted Monhegan (study) as a rapid observation of the island itself. Cool ultramarine water presses against warm russet rock. The brushwork stays loose and searching, pigment laid thin in places, thicker along the harbor edge, every mark recording how light moves across that granite. Suited to a hallway, a coastal guest room, or a desk corner where something northern and salt-scoured belongs.
