Monhegan (Dreaminess)

Dark headlands of Monhegan anchor the foreground, their granite rendered in deep umber strokes that seem to absorb the sea light around them. Nicholas Roerich titled this work Monhegan (Dreaminess), and the name fits the drifting mood above the rocks. Beyond the cliffs, the Atlantic dissolves into bands of pewter and pale rose, the horizon left soft so the eye drifts outward. Broad, confident brushwork builds the headland while the water stays misted and half-seen. A low sky carries the whole composition, cool violet at the top shading toward the faint warmth where sea meets air. Made for a study, a quiet reading nook, or a hallway that needs depth, this coastal vision rewards long looking.
