A water mill stands half buried in snow, its dark timber walls sunk into a bank of white. Młyn w zimie by Ferdynand Ruszczyc turns a working building into a winter monument. Heavy impasto builds the drifts, thick leaden strokes laying snow over roof, wheel and frozen race. Bare birch trunks cut thin pale lines against a low sky of grey and violet, while the mill wheel itself sits locked in ice, a dark circle of timber and frost. Cold light holds the whole scene still. Suited to a study or a hallway where a quieter, colder register of landscape belongs.
