Mist

Mist gathers low over a mountain world rendered by Nicholas Roerich. The artist of the high passes built whole compositions from thin air, and here the vapors themselves become the subject, pressing close against ridgelines and hollows. Blues carry the scene. A pale, milky haze drifts across the foreground while deeper cobalt gathers in the folds of distant slopes, peaks half-erased where the fog thickens. Broad, flat passages of tempera sit beside sharper accents along a summit edge, the way wet air softens one contour and leaves another hard. Nothing small survives the veil: trees, paths, human scale all dissolve, and what remains is geology and weather in slow negotiation. It belongs in a quiet study or a hallway that faces north, where cool light can meet the cold blues head-on and the fog seems to keep moving at the edge of vision.
