Island. is one of Nicholas Roerich most meditative compositions, where a small vessel carries a single figure across a sea rendered in layered tones of cobalt and indigo. The water dominates the field, painted in broad, confident strokes that shift from dark violet depths near the foreground to pale steel blue where the horizon thins. The island rises low and dark against the sky, its silhouette softened by haze.
