Meat and Eggs

A slab of raw beef dominates the canvas, its crimson surface laid bare under cool light. Beside it, four pale eggs rest in quiet order, a still life Felix Vallotton painted with unflinching directness. The beef carries deep carmine tones, fat edging into cream and ivory where the knife has cut. Blood pools in thin russet lines across the butcher block.
