Martigues

Martigues opens onto the water, Loiseau painting the canal town where Provence meets the lagoon, boats tied bow to stern along quays washed in pale southern light. Rooftops in terracotta rise above a bridge, their reflections breaking apart on rippled water. His brushwork comes in short, confident strokes, dabs of cobalt and jade green carrying the harbor depth while whitewashed walls hold the midday glare. The composition breathes, water and stone balanced. It belongs in a sunlit kitchen, a coastal hallway, anywhere that wants the calm of a French port at noon.
