Marinha

Salt air and grey water fill the frame. Marinha, by Antonio Carneiro, turns the Atlantic into a study of weather, light and the small stubborn shapes of boats against it. Carneiro painted the sea the way a sailor knows it. Muted blues and greens sit under a sky heavy with cloud, the brushwork wet and quick where waves break, dry and scraped where hulls catch a low sun. Masts lean into wind. Foam reads as a single dragged stroke of pale grey. A seascape like this suits a room with weathered wood and linen, a hallway or reading corner that faces north light.
