Maine Landscape

Green headlands roll toward a cold Atlantic horizon, the sea a pale slate band beneath a high sky. Robert Henri painted Maine Landscape with quick, loaded strokes of oil, the kind that leave ridges you can read from across a room. Foreground grass runs olive and ochre, broken by scrub and granite outcrop in umber. A farmhouse or shack sits small against the slope, its roof a single dab of rust red.
