Lunch at Le Grand Lamps

A table crowded for the midday meal, painted by Pierre Bonnard in Lunch at Le Grand Lamps. Plates, glasses and a spread of food fill the foreground while figures lean in from the edges. Bonnard pushes color until it hums: chrome yellow light on the cloth, violet shadow under the table, wine reds and butter tones worked into the faces. His brushwork stays loose and close-packed, the interior glowing as if lit from within by lamplight and window glare at once.
